Step inside the newly renovated museum building, and experience the new exhibitions about design then, now and in the future. Please note that we are currently building a new exhibition on Danish design, and as a result, a small part of the museum is temporarily closed. We are currently building the exhibition DANISH MODERN, which unfolds the history of Danish design from the 1920s to the year 2000 with a focus on the creation of some of the most iconic Danish design classics. Explore part of the museum’s collection in this free display presenting modern designs through these three interconnected roles. Inside, the furniture includes Wegner's classic Wishbone chairs, eight of which sit around a dining table in the spacious living area.

The Design Museum Shop
The Designmuseum Danmark, Bredgade 68, 1260 København K, is in a former mid-18th century King Frederik Hospital in central Copenhagen. The Danish Design Archive and the Poster Collection are located on the museum's first floor.

Grow-at-home furniture
Plenty of green plants and lights and furniture with friendly curved and circular forms create an inviting interior with an organic feel. This penthouse on Australia's Gold Coast was designed to have a calm interior as a "complete juxtaposition" to the typically "ostentatious" homes seen around the area. Instead, CJH Studio chose white and neutral colours to create a timeless design. As the sun starts to heat up the city, it is time to get out and explore the architecture.
Admission to the café, bookshop, library, and pleasant courtyard garden is free. The café is a popular lunch stop for small meals while three-course dinners are served on Wednesdays. A new display explains how 20th-century Danish design was influenced by major 19th-century ideas and designers, e.g. the contribution of Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, and Kaare Klint. Our members enjoy free entry to all exhibitions, exclusive events, discounts in the shop and cafe. This house in Copenhagen was allegedly once the home of renowned Danish architect Poul Henningsen, who designed the iconic PH lamp. In the living room, Danish designer Hans J Wegner's wood and woven paper-chord CH25 Easy Chair is matched with a Flowerpot lamp by Danish designer Verner Panton in a glossy beige hue.
Permanent Collection of the Danish Design Museum
Norm Architects used some of Henningsen's lights, which the house's owner collects, in its design for the interior, and complimented them with modern pieces such as the JWDA table lamp by Menu. A Finn Juhl dining table and chairs have pride of place in the dining room, where they sit in front of a balcony with panoramic views of the surrounding nature. A brass pendant light perfectly matches the brown wood of the furniture.

Designmuseum Danmark was founded in 1890 by the Industriforeningen i København (now Dansk Industri – The Confederation of Danish Industries) and the Ny Carlsberg Museumslegat. It first opened to the public in 1895 in a completely new museum building situated on what is now H.C. Right from the start the main purpose of the museum has been to disseminate a concept of quality within design. Through displaying the exemplary objects it was hoped to raise standards within the products of Danish industry. The Museum’s collections were thus envisaged as serving as a source of inspiration for people active in industry.
Danish design is known for its use of wood, streamlined shapes and simple silhouettes. In this lookbook, we round up ten interiors from all over the world that feature both new design and iconic furniture pieces from the Scandinavian country. Images of heroic warriors in battle and beautiful young people can be experienced in the exhibition 'In Love and War' at Designmuseum Danmark. The exhibition showcases carefully selected Japanese woodblock prints from the museum's large collection of Japanese craftsmanship. Exhibition under constructionWe are currently building a new exhibition on Danish design, which will include our popular ‘chair tunnel’. Due to the construction, a small part of the museum is therefore inaccessible until June 14th.

The lights bring a graphic contrast to the wood and matches the large black steel supports that run along the length of the cabin. This barrel-vaulted cabin in a Danish forest lets its materials speak for themselves, with a dramatic living space clad in pine wood. An abandoned shed was turned into a home by studio La Firme, which disassembled it and rebuilt it at a new location on a farmhouse property in Mansonville, Quebec.
